Weight Management and Diabetes Clinic
Welcome to the Weight Management and Diabetes Clinic
Weight Management services include a comprehensive medical history and physical examination conducted by one of our physicians, dietary education (group and individual), support group participation, individualized counseling by licensed medical social worker, and referal to our kinesiotherapist for an individualized exercise program. Beginning in early 2016, we will be offering dietary services via telemedicine. Motivated, compliant Veterans meeting specific criteria are referred for bariatric surgery. These patients are followed closely by our providers for a minimum of five years postoperatively.
Diabetes Clinic services offered include a comprehensive medical history and physical exam with attention to identifying complications relating to diabetes. Supportive services include dietary counseling and individualized diabetes education provided by the certified diabetes educator in our clinic. We offer continuous glucose sensor placement for those patients with hypoglycemia or have failed to achieve optimal glucose control despite intensive therapy. We also provide services for type 1 diabetic patients on insulin pmp therapy and/or a variety of continuous glucose sensors.
Additional services and procedures offered at the clinic:
- weight management through lifestyle change or bariatric surgery
- diabetes management through use of restricted drugs such as Symlin, glucose sensors and insulin pumps
- sensor placement procedures
- Pre and Post Operative bariatric surgery management
Telemedical services can also be provided to outlying and rural areas that include general and bariatric nutrition, implemented in early 2016.
Graduate Medical Education
The Weight Management and Diabetes Clinic is proud to be affiliated with the UT Health Science Center and participates in the education of the next generation of physicians. All residents and fellows are mentored closely by staff physicians when evaluating and treating our Veterans.
New Patients: If you have never been seen in our clinic, or if it has been more than two years since you have been seen, you will require a referral from your Primary care Provider (PCP).
