What's Happening at your VA

South Texas Veterans Health Care System is postponing Vaccination Walk-In Clinic's for Saturday, January 23, 2021 for the Audie L. Murphy Memorial Veterans Hospital, Kerrville VA Medical Center, and Frank M. Tejeda Outpatient Clinic.   Veterans with a scheduled appointment on January 23 are being notified and rescheduled.  Veterans are encouraged to continue monitoring this website and social media sites www.facebook.com/SanAntonioVAMC, www.twitter.com/SanAntonioVAMC for updated information about the vaccines and future clinic dates.

Visitation Guidance
South Texas Veterans Health Care System is no longer allowing outpatient visitors to accompany Veterans.  Limited exceptions to this restriction will be allowed on a case-by-case basis, at the determination of entrance screening personnel.  This change is in response to the recent sharp increase in the COVID-19 positivity rate (>15%) in Bexar County.  Below are examples of situations where an exception may be appropriate.

  • Medically & Cognitively impaired adults: 1 primary caregiver allowed

  • Emergency Room Visitors are not allowed at this time, unless the Veteran is medically or cognitively impaired. In all other instances, pick-up and drop-off assistance is permitted only. Non-medically required attendants may be asked to wait in their vehicles.

  • Ambulatory/Same day Surgeries: 1 escort permitted until discharge.

  • Surgery with Planned Admission: 1 escort may remain in the building until the surgeon completes the case and discusses it with him/her.

  • A Child under the age of 18 may be permitted entry due to lack of childcare or school closure. The limit is one child.

Screening and Universal Masking requirements remain unchanged. The visitor and Veteran will be screened at the hospital entrance and required to wear a mask at all times while in the facility.

MISSION Act Information
One of the most exciting changes brought by the VA MISSION Act, is the new Urgent Care benefit. There are some requirements to qualify for this benefit. Read the Urgent Care fact sheet, then find the nearest urgent care clinic in VA's Community Care Network.   Get all of that information here.

ATTENTION VETERANS!!!   If you utilize your urgent care benefit, and the urgent care clinic provides a prescription, please download this Urgent Care Prescription Card, or print it and keep it with you at all times. You will need to present this information to the retail pharmacist.
