What's Happening at your VA

COVID-19 vaccines are safe and effective at preventing COVID-19, including severe illness and death. COVID-19 vaccines are effective against severe disease and death from variants of the virus that causes COVID-19 currently circulating in the United States, including the Delta variant.

Infections happen in only a small proportion of people who are fully vaccinated, even with the Delta variant. When these infections occur among vaccinated people, they tend to be mild. If you are fully vaccinated and become infected with the Delta variant, you can spread the virus to others.”

Out of abundance of caution, to protect veterans and staff, and in accordance with the VHA moving forward recommendations, given the very high incidence of new COVID-19 infections in Texas, the STVHCS will require covid-19 testing within 72 hours, for patients undergoing aerosol generating procedures regardless of vaccination status. Please reach out to your provider if you have any questions.

Masking Requirement

The South Texas Veterans Health Care System continues to require a face covering by all staff and visitors, at all VA facilities nationwide. All visitors will be screened at the entrances. Only visitors without symptoms will be permitted to enter and must comply with mandatory masking, social distancing, and any other applicable PPE requirements.

As a federal organization, this policy can and will remain in place even if state or local masking requirements change.

VISITATION POLICY:

Outpatient Areas:
One essential caregiver per patient (e.g., driver for post procedure, patients incapable of understanding, immobile patient [wheelchair])

Inpatient:  excluding Community Living Center (CLC), Bone Marrow Transplant Unit (BMTU), Spinal Cord Injury Center (SCIC): No visitations except on case by case basis. No visitors to COVID designated areas.

CLC, BMTU, SCIC: Continue on a temporary no visitation policy per national VA guidance.
