Mission and Vision
The mission of the San Antonio Geriatric Research, Education and Clinical Center (GRECC) is to be a center of excellence for the advancement of research, education, and clinical care in geriatrics and gerontology. Through the commitment, motivation, creativity, and dedication from all the people who are part of the GRECC, and affiliated institutions and centers, we strive to improve the life of older Veterans that served our Country. Faculty and staff working at the GRECC are dedicated to realizing the vision of a world where older Veterans live a long and enjoyable life.
The San Antonio GRECC activities center on the broad themes of metabolism and inflammation. These activities are aimed at gaining new knowledge about the basic biology of aging, mechanisms regulating longevity, and understanding the pathophysiology of numerous age-related diseases that affect the lives of millions of older Veterans, including diabetes, obesity, sarcopenia, Alzheimer’s disease, heart failure, and Parkinson’s disease.
