U.S. Army Veteran, Leon Spurlock received the Voluntary of the Year Award. Mr. Spurlock has over 4,000 volunteer hours.  He serves as the Moderate Sedation Volunteer Driver, which is a very long assignment. He drives to the VA to pick up a government vehicle, drives to a patient's home (no more than 50 miles from the hospital), picks up and drives the patient to the hospital, waits for the duration of the procedure and recovery, drives the patient home, and returns the government vehicle to the hospital.  Last fiscal year Mr. Spurlock had over 100 moderate sedation pick-ups. His hours last year were valued at $20,137.15 by the national set hourly rate but the service he provides to Veteran patients is truly invaluable.
