Care in the Community Page
Attention Veterans. The VA MISSION Act of 2018 was signed into law June 6, 2018 and became effective June 6, 2019. One of the biggest changes is for Veterans who were eligible for community care through the Choice 40 Program should now call the South Texas VA Office of Community care at 210-949-3850 to request care. For a better understanding of the MISSION Act and its requirements, please read the highlights from our telephone town hall, held April 30, 2019 and the MISSION Act Fact Sheet below.
VA offers urgent care services to eligible Veterans at VA medical facilities or at in‑network urgent care clinics closer to home. Use VA’s urgent care benefit to treat minor injuries and illnesses that are not life-threatening, such as colds, strep throat, sprained muscles, and skin and ear infections. To make sure you have a smooth experience, please review the information on this page to understand the requirements and limitations associated with this benefit. https://www.va.gov/COMMUNITYCARE/programs/veterans/Urgent_Care.asp
