“Canteen of the Year Award”
What: The South Texas Veterans Health Care System (STVHCS) will celebrate the “Canteen of the Year” for 2009!

Background: The STVHCS, Veterans Canteen Service (VCS) was chosen “Canteen of the Year” for 2009! Canteens selected for the award passed a demanding four step evaluation process that included: (1) financial profitability and ranking in the Top 30% of all canteens; (2) operational objectives; evaluation, employee productivity measures, all Employee Survey scores, retail accountability results; (3) rating scores in areas involving customer service (4) unannounced visits by Veterans’ Canteen Service Central Office staff to selected Canteens ensuring operating and customer service standards met all of the criteria.
STVHCS Canteen Chief, Ms. Diane Walters, stated, “ This is a very distinguished honor and I appreciate what the VCS staff have done to make this possible – I thank all VA staff in their support to make this possible.”
