Training- STVHCS Research

 


Training Requirements

All courses must be renewed annually

 

All investigators and staff conducting Human Research must complete training below, unless considered *Exempt Personnel* in which case they must complete Information Security 201 for Research and Development personnel only

All investigators and staff conducting Animal Research must complete training #2 and #3 below, unless considered *Exempt Personnel* in which case they must complete Information Security 201 for Research and Development personnel only

* Exempt Personnel* can be:

1.   Those who are strictly administrative staff

2.   Those who are based at the affiliate or other institution and do not come to the VA or do not directly interact with VA research participants or their identifiable specimens or data

3.   Outside volunteers who serve on committees

4.   Those who are involved in the care of research subjects as part of their routine clinical jobs

Determination of Exempt Status must be made by the R&D office.  In order to request that personnel be determined exempt, a memo with the individuals’ roles and responsibilities must be submitted to R&D office for approval.

 

1.  CITI - Course in The Protection of Human Research Subjects

Register with the VA (South Texas Veterans Health Care System).  The VA has specific modules that must be completed.  The IRB will accept the VA’s training.  However, the VA cannot accept the training if you register with UTHSCSA.

2.  Data Security Training

LMS Instructions:

Each person involved in the research protocol is required to take the following training modules:

1) Information Security 201 for Research and Development Personnel

2) VA Cyber Security Awareness

3) VHA Privacy Policy Web Training
